Comprehensive Guide to the Greenwich School System

Comprehensive Guide to the Greenwich School System

Here is everything you need to know to understand Greenwich’s school system: from pre-kindergarten to high school graduation

Greenwich Public Schools

Greenwich Public Schools include eleven elementary schools, three middle schools, and a high school. With nearly 9,000 students in total, this school system is devoted to prioritizing personalized learning for each child to optimize their education and encourage them to pursue lifelong learning.

Elementary schools include Cos Cob School, Glenville School, Riverside School, Parkway School, Old Greenwich School, North Street School, and North Mianus School. Public middle schools that serve our community are Central Middle School and Eastern Middle School. Greenwich High School has approximately 2,500 students and is the primary public high school.

Greenwich Public Schools also has five magnet schools: four of which are elementary schools and one middle school. This facet of the public school system gives parents options to specialize their child’s education to focus on an academic area or learning style that best suits their needs. These schools have a selective application process, which is available to complete each spring for the following academic year. Magnet elementary schools include New Lebanon School, Julian Curtiss School, International School at Dundee, and Hamilton Avenue School, while Western Middle School is the magnet middle school in Greenwich.

Windrose is an alternative high school program designed to help realign students with commencement goals, prepare students for undergraduate coursework, and help reignite a passion for learning. This high school option is available on an as-needed basis only, and students are reassessed every academic year to see if their needs still qualify for this academic environment.

Greenwich also offers a public preschool for all children to help them transition into an academic environment. Regardless of development speed, children here will develop social and communication skills, motor skills, and cognitive abilities.

All Greenwich public schools are united by their mission to cultivate young minds into brilliant thinkers by emphasizing a comprehensive and challenging curriculum that incorporates diverse viewpoints and sets a high expectation for behavior, integrity, and accountability.
