GREENWICH — Music mogul Tommy Mottola has sold his mansion in backcountry Greenwich for about $14.9 million, in what appears to be the town’s largest residential sale this year.

The 5.7-acre lakefront home at 33 John St. was sold, to an undisclosed buyer, for 25 percent less than its original asking price of nearly $20 million. It went on the market in April 2017.

Robin Kencel, of Compass, was the listing agent. Kencel declined to comment. Stephen Archino, of Sotheby’s, represented the buyer. A message left Wednesday for Archino was not immediately returned.

Former Sony Music Entertainment CEO Mottola, who is married to pop star Thalia, bought the nine-bedroom Georgian Colonial for $2.85 million in 2010, according to The Real Deal. He then renovated it and fixed its landscaping to improve access to the lake.

The 12,400-square-foot home features a pool, with a cabana and pavilion; a gym; a massage room; and a guest house with a recording studio and living quarters. It also includes a footbridge to a private island.

Annual property taxes for 33 John St., which stands near the intersection of John Street and Round Hill Road, total about $80,000.

In other major sales in Greenwich this year, a 5-acre lakefront property at 35 Close Road changed hands in February for $11.2 million, after going on the market in July 2017. It had been listed at $12 million.

Last year’s top seller in town was a midcountry home, at 110 Clapboard Ridge Road. It went for $17.5 million, half its original asking price.

Among other eight-figure listings, the price of Round Hill Manor, a former home of the late hotel magnate Leona Helmsley, was cut in January by about $6.5 million.

The reduction represented the latest of several discounts on the 40-acre backcountry property, at 521 Round Hill Road, which is now listed at $22.5 million after originally going on the market for nearly $50 million.
