The Town Clerk’s office in Greenwich is the official State recording agency for the town. This includes all documents related to ownership of real property, vital statistics records, and different types of licenses. Carmella’s office is located in Greenwich’s Town Hall on the 1st floor. Greenwich’s Tax Assessor is Lauren Elliott. The Assessor’s main objective is to ensure that all taxable property located within Greenwich is assessed according to CT State law, so that all assessments are fair and equitable. To accomplish this objective, the Assessor’s Office is in charge of discovering, listing, and valuing all property within Greenwich. This includes Real Estate, Motor Vehicle, and Personal Property. The Planning and Zoning Department is tasked with a wide range of responsibilities. These include: preparing a long-range plan for future development and recommendations for the most desirable use of the land within Town, regulating zoning standards, reviewing of coastal site applications, subdivisions, re-subdivisions, site plans, municipal improvement requests, rezoning applications, and more. The purpose of the Inland Wetlands & Watercourses Department is to protect the citizens of Greenwich by making provisions for the protection, preservation, and maintenance of use of the inland wetlands and watercourses. The wetlands and watercourses are an indispensable, irreplaceable, and fragile natural resource with which the citizens of Greenwich and the State have been endowed. The department reviews all developmental activities proposed within and adjacent to inland wetland and watercourse areas at regular monthly meetings held on the fourth Monday of each month. The mission of the Department of Parks and Recreation is to establish a standard of excellence in Greenwich’s parks, programs, and facilities. This encourages diverse recreational opportunities and the preservation of natural resources in town. The director of the Parks and Recreation Department is Joseph Siciliano. The Building Inspection Division enforces the Connecticut State Building Code and issues permits for a wide variety of activities. You can find out which activities require permits and apply for them by visiting their website. If you have any construction activity or code questions, the Building Inspection Division is the place to go to find the answers. The division’s official is William Marr. The Highways Division is responsible for a wide variety of tasks including, the maintenance, repair, construction, and replacement of our public highways, sidewalks, and storm drain infrastructures. The division also takes care of street cleaning, snow and ice removal from public roadways, sidewalks, and parking lots. Additionally, they install and maintain traffic control devices. The Greenwich Probate Court was established by the General Assembly on July 4, 1853. Major responsibilities include probating wills and the administration of estates, determining title to real and personal property, granting name changes, division of property, and plenty more. The Greenwich Probate Court seeks to serve the citizens of our town and to secure an efficient, fast, and economical handling of all personal and family matters within its jurisdiction. The purpose of the Greenwich Health Department is to protect, improve, and promote the health of Greenwich Residents. Some of the services provided by the Department of Health include: child and adult routine immunizations, lab tests, nursing care in people’s homes, distributing important information regarding public health, health policies, health resources, and education. The Director of the Health Department is Caroline Calderone Baisley. The department’s office is located on the 3rd floor of Town Hall. The Greenwich Library provides free and convenient access to information while promoting the love of reading and research, and the happiness of lifelong learning. It offers a welcoming place for people to gather and share experiences. The Library seeks to serve as the cultural and intellectual crossroads of the community. The Greenwich Library was recently named a five-star library by Library Journal for the tenth year in a row.
The Byram Shubert Library is a branch of the Greenwich Library. It is the cultural and educational social center that serves Byram and Western Greenwich. The library has a collection of popular materials for adults, children, and young adults. They also have a Spanish Language adult and children’s collection, and their periodicals include local and national newspapers and magazines in English and Spanish.
The Cos Cob Library is a great community center. It contains over 40,000 materials including books, movies, CDs, and magazines. Wifi is available throughout the library and there are 12 public computers available for use. The Community Room showcases art throughout most of the year and is available for local meetings and programs. The library runs several storytime and craft programs for children, informative lectures for adults, author visits, and much more.
Perrot Memorial Library is a private institution owned by the Perrot Library Association. It is affiliated with the larger Greenwich Public Library System. The library is located in Old Greenwich, which comprises the eastern portion of Greenwich. It has a collection of approximately 31,000 adult books and 29,000 children’s books, as well as over 2,200 music CDs, and 1,500 audiobooks.

Bruce Park is close to downtown Greenwich and features a large playground for children. Most of the park is built on soft asphalt, so no need to worry about falls. Many families take advantage of the proximity to Bruce Museum (just across the street) to spend the day enjoying both places.

Montgomery Pinetum features beautiful trails surrounded by dense forest, and is perfect for those who love mountain biking, hiking, or casual walks. The park is surrounded by scenic streams and ponds, making it a lovely place to take in nature while not having to travel far from home.

Head over to Byram Park to take a swim in Greenwich’s only outdoor public pool. Tennis courts are available for use, and there’s plenty of open space to practice different types of sports.
