Glenville

Welcome to Glenville

Glenville is one of Greenwich’s distinctive neighborhoods. It’s found at the southwest corner of Fairfield County, just across the New York state line, with the Byram River running through its geography and history.

Glenville wasn’t always known as such; it was originally known as “Sherwood’s Bridge” a family name of early settlers. As the region developed during the Industrial Revolution, saw-, grist-, and textile mills became Glenville’s primary industry, and the Byram River provided hydro-power to those businesses. The Byram Manufacturing Company, Hawthorne Woolen Mill Company, and the American Felt Company were founded in Glenville.

Glenville’s legacy as a town that welcomed immigrants in fact, needed immigrants to staff the mills carries on today, with a culturally diverse community.

In 2007, the National Register of Historic Places formally recognized the Glenville Historic District for its significant American history and architecture. Today, home styles across Glenville include single-family dwellings and condominiums that range in price from less than $500,000 to $3 million or more. The lower end of that range allows a broad spectrum of homebuyers to buy into Greenwich’s compelling value proposition.
